UIBE, as a university initially included in the national higher education "211 Project", enjoys a high reputation at both home and abroad. School of Public Administration has various majors, including public administration, customs management, and economic management of education, labor and social security, cultural industry management, public economy, taught by professional teachers from multi-disciplinary fields, including politics, economics, management, and law, and most of them have overseas study and working experiences. School of Public Administration is based on the subject characters of international business, international law, and international enterprise management in UIBE, mobilizing the most excellent teachers to provide high quality classes for MPA education.
The curriculum design of School of Public Administration highlights the character of “being extraverted”, focusing on cultivating public management talents who are proficient in foreign languages, international business, and relevant legal knowledge, and providing solid and comprehensive academic support for MPA education. The School of Public Administration is committed to be the cradle of international MPA talents in the field of customs management, public administration, and so on. To better adapt to the need of high-level and multi-type talents for the national economic and social development, UIBE will continue to recruit MPA professional degree graduates.
MPA has two professional directions: customs and international business management, and public administration management. Students who complete all courses specified in training program and are eligible for graduate’s degree conferral of UIBE will be awarded degree certificate and MPA degree.
1. Customs and International Trade Management
The major of customs management of UIBE was established in 1974, which is the only school in China that can confer both bachelor degree of management and master degree of management in customs. During the past 40 years, UIBE has already cultivated over 2000 undergraduates and around 300 postgraduates majoring in customs, among which most of them have become the backbone of customs system, many of them have become leaders, and there are even 3 provincial-level leaders and over 30 bureau-level leaders.
UIBE and General Administration of Customs signed an official cooperation contract in September, 2011, authorizing School of Public Administration to cultivate MAP talents for customs system, and the standard number is 40 annually. The number of current MPA postgraduates from customs system is over 120.
The classes are taught in an intensive way on the campus of UIBE, which are mainly in two months---May and October.
2. Public Administration Management
Currently, the School of Public Administration has public management as its discipline master degree program, six secondary master degree programs, for example administration management, and PhD enrollment recruitment in public policy. UIBE launched undergraduate major of administration management in 1997, which is one of the key universities launching the major of administration management in a relatively early period. The major of administration management has already cultivated over 400 students who have already become professional management talents in government agencies, state-owned enterprises and institutions, and overseas-funded enterprises, and so on.
The major of public administration cultivates senior professional management talents for central and local government at all levels and all kinds of enterprises and institutions, whose major character is to concern the foreign affairs function of the government, foster the students to be proficient in using government foreign affairs management knowledge to work on government foreign administration affairs, foreign economic affairs and policy research. Currently, there are almost 120 MPA students majoring in public administration in the School of Public Administration, who are from the central party and government organs, state ministries, civil servants from party and government organs at all levels in Beijing, and outstanding students from companies in Beijing and surrounding areas.
